-We use “don’t have to, needn’t’’ to express a lack of obligation or necessity.
We needn’t get up early tomorrow. It’s Sunday
I don’t have to wear suit to work but I usually do.
-To express a lack of obligation in the past we use “didn’t have to”.
The teacher didn’t come to school yesterday. So we didn’t have to take exam.
I have to go to the work everyday except Sunday. But I didn’t have to work a full day on Saturday.
