USE OF THE PAST CONTINUOUS

(Past Continuous Kullanımı)

Past continuous tense, diğer adıyla past progressive tense, fiiller was/were + V-ing şeklinde kullanılır.

1. Past continuous, geçmişte belirli bir zamanda devam etmekte olan eylemleri ifade eder.

I was reading a book at 6 o’clock yesterday evening.

(Dün akşam saat 6’da kitap okuyordum)

We were having lunch when the door bell rang.

(Kapı zili çaldığında öğle yemeği yiyorduk)

2. “While + past continuous, past continuous” geçmişteki iki paralel eylemi ifade eder.

While I was walking along the street, I was looking at the shop windows.

(Cadde boyunca yürürken dükkan vitrinlerine bakıyordum)

3. “While + past continuous, past simple” bir eylem sırasında olan veya bu eylemi kesen olayları ifade eder.

While the soldiers were walking, a girl stopped them and gave them flowers.

(Askerler yürürlerken, bir kız onları durdurdu ve çiçek verdi)
