(İngilizce Miktar belirteçleri)
Quantifiers, isimlerden önce kullanılan ve miktar belirten kelimelerdir. Bu kelimeler şunlardır.
Sadece çoğul isimlerle kullanılanlar:

Sadece sayılamayanlarla kullanılanlar

Hem çoğullarla hem sayılamayanlarla kullanılabilenler

Tekil sayılabilir isimlerle kullanılanlar

A LOT OF / LOTS OF
A lot (of), lots of (bir çok), plenty of (fazlasıyla, pek çok) çoğunlukla olumlu cümlelerde hem sayılamayanlarla hem çoğul sayılabilenlerle kullanılır.
There are a lot of students in the garden.
(Bahçede bir çok öğrenci var)
I drink a lot of tea every day.
(Hergün çok çay içerim)
You needn’t hurry. We’ve got plenty of time.
(Acele etmene gerek yok. Fazlasıyla zamanın var)
Bir isim belirtmezsek a lot of yerine sadece a lot kullanılır.
Don’t buy any bread. There is already a lot.
(Hiç ekmek alma. Zaten çok var. )
EACH and EVERY
Every, tekil sayılabilen bir isimden önce, ikiden fazla varlığı ifade eder.
Every student is responsible for doing their homework.
(Her öğrenci ödevini yapmaktan sorumludur)
You cannot keep every animal at home.
(Evde her hayvanı besleyemezsin)
Every, bir şeyin ne kadar sıklıkla olduğunu söylerken kullanırız:
Turkey has an election every four years.
(Türkiye her dört yılda seçim yapar)
Almost, nearly, practically ve without exception ifadeleriyle every kullanılır:
The bandits robbed almost every person.
(Haydutlar neredeyse her kişiyi soydu)
Each, tekil sayılabilen isimlerin önünde, iki yada daha fazla üyeli bir grupta, her bir varlığı nitelemek için kullanılabilir. Önünde isim olmadan da kullanılabilir.
Each student asked a question in turn.
(Sırayla her bir öğrenci soru sordu)
Every ve each karşılaştırırsak, bahsettiğimiz insan veya nesneleri hep birlikte düşündüğümüz zaman (hepsine birden aynı zamanda anlamında) every; ayrı ayrı, herbiri olarak (bir kerede biri anlamında) düşündüğümüz zaman each kullanırız:
Every student heard the question.
(Her öğrenci soruyu duydu)
Each student gave a different answer.
(Her bir öğrenci farklı cevap verdi)
İki kişi veya nesne hakkında konuşurken each kullanılır. Karşılaştırınız:
She has an earring in each ear.
She has a ring in every finger.
Every one ve each (one) + of ile kullanılabilir.
These are Tom and Jerry. I speak to each (one) of them.
The teacher spoke to every one of the students in the class.
Another (an + other), “bir diğer, öbürü, başka bir” anlamında kullanılır.
I want to see another dress.
(Başka bir elbiseye bakmak istiyorum)
He bought another three books.
(Üç kitap daha aldı)
Other, the ile veya çoğul kullanılabilir.
There are only three students in the classroom, the others are in the garden.
(Sınıfta sadece üç öğrenci var, diğerleri bahçede)
You should see other doctors.
(Başka doktorları görmelisin)
Each other, one another ‘bir birlerine, bir diğerine’ anlamında kullanılabilir.
They phone each other very often.
(Bir birbirlerine çok sık telefon ederler)
MUCH / MANY
Much (sayılamayanlarla kullanılır) ve many (çoğul sayılabilenlerle kullanılır) çoğunlukla soru ve olumsuzlarda kullanılır.
Is there much water in the bottle?
(Şişede çok su var mı?)
I haven’t got much money with me.
(Yanımda çok para yok)
I don’t read many books on holidays.
(Tatillerde çok kitap okumam)
Do you know many famous people?
(Çok (sayıda) ünlü insan tanıyor musun?)
How much, how many miktar sorarken kullanırız. How much’tan sonra sayılamayan bir isim; How many ‘den sonra çoğul sayılabilen bir isim gelmelidir.
How much money have you got?
How many children do you have? (How many child …değil)
Too many, too much ‘çok fazla’ anlamındadır:
You are watching too much TV. (Çok fazla televizyon seyrediyorsun)
I have too many cows. (Çok fazla ineğim var)
A LITTLE / A FEW
A few (birkaç) çoğul sayılabilen isimlerle, a little (biraz) sayılamayan isimlerle kullanılır.
There are a few books on the shelf.
(Rafta birkaç kitap var)
I need a little sugar. I will have coffee.
(Biraz şekere ihtiyacım var. Kahve içeceğim)
Several kelimesi a few gibidir, fakat daha fazla çokluk ifade eder.
I spent several minutes on the exercise.
(Alıştırmaya birkaç dakika harcadım)
Quite a few, quite a little (pek çok) anlamında çok miktarları belirtir.
There are quite a few students in class. Over twenty.
Few ve little (önünde a olmadan), ‘az ve yetersiz; çok az’ şeklinde olumsuz anlamda kullanılır. Very kelimesiyle vurgulanabilir. Karşılaştırınız:
There are few schools in the town. Therefore the classroms are very crowded.
(Şehirde birkaç okul var. Bu yüzden sınıflar çok kalabalık)
I have got very little coffee. We can’t have coffee.
(Çok az kahvemiz var. Kahve içemeyiz)
Few yerine konuşma dilinde only a few kullanılabilir.
There are only a few schools in the town. Therefore the classroms are very crowded.
(Şehirde birkaç okul var. Bu yüzden sınıflar çok kalabalık)
