A: Ah finally someone knows how to speak English! It’s been so long since I have found someone around Montreal who speaks good English like you do. For a month, everywhere I went people speak nothing but French. And since I have really low French skills it becomes very hard for me to survive here without it.
B: Yes you are right ma’am, welcome to Quebec, this is how it is here! I am an Italian, originally. But I speak good French, English and of course Italian. Anyway being a resident here you really need to know how to speak French. It’s a necessity. I suggest you learn it as soon as possible. You need it to find jobs and what not. You really will have a tough time to survive around here.
A: Yes I have been thinking of all that. Sometimes it really feels like I am in France and not Canada! I feel like moving somewhere where English has more priority sometimes like Toronto. Because French is quite tough. I am not sure if I am up for learning it fluently at this age.
B: That is true, but not to worry, you will learn everything slowly. You just got here after all. So are you looking for anything in particular? Or are you just looking around?
A: Oh yes I was just exploring the neighborhood a bit, I heard about your shop. I hear you have nice sports shoes collection, so came to check it out, if that’s okay with you.
B: Oh no problem at all, feel free to do so! We’re open till 6 pm you know. And I am here if you have any questions at all, do not hesitate!
A: Not at all, I will be coming here more often! Don’t worry.
