a) CAN’T:
You can’t be serious.
(Ciddi olamazsın.)
The car is out of order. It can’t be new.
(Araba bozuk. O araba yeni olamaz.)
It can’t be Mike. He is out of the city.
( O Mike olamaz. O şehir dışında.)
b) MUST
The door is ringing. It must be Kate.
( Kapı çalıyor. Kate olmalı.)
The flowers are for you. They must be from Martin.
( Bu çiçekler senin için. Martinden olmalı.)
The manager is calling you. The subject must be the exam.
( Müdür seni çağırıyor. Konu sınav olmalı.)
c) COULDN’T
You couldn’t be ill. I saw you.
(Hasta olamazsın. Seni gördüm.)
The car is out of order. It couldn’t be new.
(Araba bozuk. O araba yeni olamaz.)
It couldn’t be Mike. He is out of the city.
( O Mike olamaz. O şehir dışında.)
There couldn’t be students in the school. It is holiday.
( Okulda çocuklar olamaz. Şu an tatil.)
d) MUST HAVE+V3
Geçmişle ilgili kuvvetli bir tahminde bulunurken bu yapı kullanılır.
I called the Browns yesterday evening. They didn’t answer. They must have gone out.
( Dün akşam Browns ailesini aradım. Açmadılar dışarı çıkmış olmalılar.)
I saw Ayşegül yesterday. She had bags in her hand. She must have done shopping.
( Dün Ayşegül’ü gördüm. Elinde torbalar vardı. Alışveriş yapmış olmalı.)
Last weekend the electricity went off. They must have stayed in the dark until late hours.
( Geçen haftasonu elektrikler kesildi. Onlar geç saate kadar karanlıkta kalmış olmalı.)
Ali hasn’t come yet. He must have been late for the meeting.
( Ali hala gelmedi .Toplantıya geç kalmış olmalı.)
She must have seen you. She is so angry.
( O çok sinirli. Sizi görmüş olmalı.)

Geçmişte olmasının imkansız olduğunu düşündüğümüz eylem ve olaylar için kullanılabilir.
You can’t have seen Mike. He died last year.
( Mike’ı görmüş olamazsın. O geçen sene öldü.)
They can’t have made that mistake. They listened to the teacher carefully.
( Bu saçma hatayı yapmı olamazlar. Öğretmeni dikkatle dinlediler.)
You can’t have gone to İstanbul. There were no planes.
( İstanbul’a gitmi olamazsın. Hiç uçak yoktu.)
He can’t have got 0 in the exam.
( Sınavdan sıfır almış olamaz.)
She can’t have married that boy. Her boyfriend was in the army.
(O oğlanla evlenmiş olamaz. Onun erkek arkadaşı askerde.)
We can’t have forgotten the homework. It was in my bag.
