THERE IS – THERE ARE
Türkçe’deki “var”, “vardır” kelimesinin karşılığı olarak İngilizce’de “There is / There are” kullanılır. Sayılamayan ve tekil isimler için “there is”, çoğul isimler için “there are” kullanılır.
Tekil ve sayılamayan (singular) isimler için:
Var – Vardır: there is (there’s)… > Olumlu cümlelerde
Var mı? – Var mıdır?: is there… ? > Soru cümlelerinde
Yok – Yoktur: there is not (there isn’t)… Olumsuz cümlelerde
There is a small glass on the table: Masada küçük bir bardak vardır.
is there any dog on the street?(Caddede hiç köpek var mı?)
There isn’t any milk in the bottle. (Şişede hiç süt yok.)
Sayılabilen Çoğul (Plural) isimler için:
Var – Vardır: there are… > Olumlu cümlelerde
Var mı? – Var mıdır?: are there… ? > Soru cümlelerinde
Yok – Yoktur: there are not (there aren’t)… Olumsuz cümlelerde
There are some pencils on the table.: Masada birkaç kurşun kalem var.
There are many people in the store.: Mağazada bir çok insan var.
Are there any pencils on the table?: Masanın üzerinde hiç kurşun kalem var mı?
a)- Yes, there are three pencils on the table.
b)- No, there aren’t (there are not) any pencil on the table
How many oranges are there in the bag?: Çantada (torbada) kaç tane portakal var?
